Desmond Mabuza civil engineer, turned restauranteur is a dedicated family man and a successful businessman with restaurants in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Nigeria. Desmond believes that the time is now for African brands and businesses to shine and grow and find their space in the global arena.
Born and raised in Soweto, Desmond spent the first fifteen years of his life between his paternal home in Dube and his Maternal home in Orlando West. His childhood memories are rich and happy, filled with the rich sounds of jazz enjoyed with family.
In a country where the fine dining restaurant business is largely dominated by foreign nationals and white South Africans, Desmond Mabuza is one of the very few black South Africans to own a stake in the industry.
The success of Signature has become somewhat of an Urban Legend, and its phenomenal growth and popularity has earned Desmond his place in both the culinary and business world. There are currently more than 100 staff employed by Signature whose brand has become internationally recognized.
Signature has a number of accolades, winning best new restaurant in its first year of opening, Diners Club Diamond award consistently over 6 years are at the top of Desmond’s list. Serving great food and being recognized internationally is what makes him most proud.
